The
Odyssey of Cardinal Arinze
By Msgr Hypolite Adigwe
The Catholic missionaries led by Rev.
Fr. Joseph Lutz C.S.Sp landed at Onitsha
on the banks of the River Niger, in Eastern
Nigeria on 6 December, 1885. The Royal
Niger Company, which was administering
the area on behalf of the British Government,
was friendly to those Holy Ghost missionaries
and gave them free hand to preach the
Gospel and educate the people. Soon, the
missionaries developed an educational
system, which penetrated into every nook
and corner of the area. By the time Anizoba
was born to Joseph and Bernadette Arinze
of Umuokpaeche family in Odida village
Eziowelle, November 1 1932, the town had
already heard, not just about the missionaries,
but had also come to appreciate the power
of the schools run by them. No wonder
the young Anizoba was sent to one of those
schools by his parents. More...

THE GENEROSITY OF OUR GOD: 2008 Christmas Message
By Bishop Hilary Okeke
The
generosity of our God has appeared among us in His
Son Jesus Christ. At Christmas, we celebrate the
greatest gift which God has given to the world.
"The Word became flesh, he lived among us"
(John 1: 14 ). Jesus Christ gave up the glory of
his divinity to assume the lowliness of our humanity.
He came into the world through the lowly handmaid
of the Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was born
in the manger.

As angels rejoiced at his birth, it was the lowly
shepherds who joined the animals to welcome the
King of kings and the Lord of lords. Christmas brings
before us the love which God has for us in sending
his only Son into the world (see John 3:16). The
infant at the manger is the Creator of the world.
We ought to stand in awe at the sight of our God
in swaddling cloth sucking the breast of the Blessed
Mary. What a marvellous sight!
God gave His all to us in Jesus Christ born as a
man for us. This is exactly what struck St. Paul
in writing, "You are well aware of the generosity
which our Lord Jesus Christ had, that, although
he was rich, he became poor for your sake, so that
you should become rich through his poverty"
(2 Cor. 8:9). Who can be richer than our God? This
God of ours made himself so poor that he could not
find a place in a decent place to be born. Jesus
was later to profess this self-imposed poverty,
"Foxes have holes and the birds of the air
have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay
his head" (Matt. 8:20). His poverty overflows
in generosity, for "Indeed, from his fullness
we have, all of us, received one gift replacing
another" (John 1: 16). More...
Sisters of Institute for Daily Dedication (SIDD)
Vision
and Mission:
The vision for the Institute is that it will bring
about real spiritual transformation in the daily
living of each member in such a way that the member's
Christian life will be transparently authentic and
impact positively on the surrounding secular society.
It is envisaged that through this Institute many
Christians will come to learn and know how to live
truly for God (a life of commitment and dedication
to God) while remaining in the secular world that
is full of challenges and temptations, but also
of opportunities for doing good and avoiding evil.

Some members of Sisters of Institute for Daily
Dedication (SIDD)
The mission is that this is an Institute for all
those who are convinced that they have been called
by God to be apostles of secular dedication for
the spiritual transformation of the society. Their
call or mission is to live lives of holiness within
the secular society in such a way that people can
see for themselves that it is possible for one to
live authentic Christian life of holiness through
dedication/commitment in the midst of the realities
and circumstances of secular life. More...
