need to carve time out of their busy
day to dedicate to silent prayer or
meditation in order to hear what God
has to say, said Pope Benedict XVI.
The faithful also have to remember
not to become completely caught up
in their daily activities and concerns,
forgetting that Jesus should be the
focus of their lives, he said at his

and authorities of The Miserere,
an international humanitarian
body led by Archbishop Robert
Zollitsch, the president
of the bishops conference
of Germany, was recently
hosted by the Metropolitan
Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical
Province, Most Rev Valerian
Okeke.
While receiving them in
a special banquet organized
in their honour, Archbishop
Okeke eulogized and immensely
appreciated the contributions
of the organization to humanity.

Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, on
Saturday, September 5, presented his
2009 annual lecture at Shanahan Hall,
the Basilica of Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha,
entitled, “The Lay Faithful In
The Church And In The Society.”
His Eminence expatiated in explicit
and detailed terms, the responsibilities
of the lay faithful in the church and
in the society, re-echoing the word
of the Lord, “You shall be my
witness in Jerusalem and in the Judea
and Samaria and to the end of the earth.”

Ahead of the Anambra State governorship
election slated for February 6, 2010,
not less than thirty candidates including
the immediate past Governor of the Central
Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Chukwuma
Soludo, have picked the People's Democratic
Party's (PDP), nomination forms for
an expression of interest fee of N250,
000 which they are expected to submit
with another accompanying fee of N5
million each.
