DEAFEN GOD'S CALL, POPE SAYS
|
VATICAN
CITY -- God is always calling people to
dedicate themselves fully to serving him,
but they often don't hear because they are
either too distracted or afraid they would
no longer be free if they answered the call,
Pope Benedict XVI said.
"Let us pray that all young people
pay attention to the voice of God, who speaks
to their hearts and calls them to

VATICAN
CITY -- The co-founder of

even as the site was under

support legalized abortion.
Jimmy Wales, who co-founded

FATHERING
SUNDAY: CMO Nnewi Diocese Celebrates
By Jude Onunkwo/Ifeoma
Okafor

Rev
Fr Jude Okwuelu flanked by parishioner
during the Fathering Sunday celebration
As the universal Church celebrates
the Fathering Sunday on May 6(being
the 5th Sunday of Easter), the Catholic
Men Organisation (CMO), Nnewi diocese
joined their colleagues all over the
world to organise activities to mark
the day. In many parishes, many features
were prepared to spice the occasion.
Some even started on the preceding
Saturday to celebrate the immeasurable
contributions of the fathers in the
society. In St. Jude's Parish, the
fathers were all ecstatically elated
as it was the first of its kind since
the creation of the parish last year.
Delivering a homily in a Eucharistic
Celebration to mark the event, the
Parish Priest in charge of the church,
Rev Fr Jude Okwuelu described fathers
as the pillars of every family and
therefore urged them to remain in
Christ Jesus, casting their burdens
on Him, embracing Him and making Jesus
their friend. He also urged their
wives and children to always love
and cherish their fathers so that
in return, perfect love will be shared
amongst the family.. .. .

WHAT A HARVEST OF BURIALS!
By Fr Gabriel Emeasoba

Fr
Theo. Odukwe, Fr. Emeka
Ibekwe & Fr. Ray. Arazu,
at the burial of late Sussana
Odukwe the grand mother
of Fr Ibekwe.
It
appears death is facing
the families of priests
these days.” This
was how an innocent faithful
summarized the events of
the last few days as it
concerned the burial of
relations of priests in
the Catholic Diocese of
Nnewi. Really, the past
two weeks have been filled
with torrents of burials
in the families of Nnewi
diocesan priests to the
extent that no fewer than
seven priests of the diocese
buried their beloved ones
in the past fourteen days
First, on 26th April, 2012,
the diocesan presbyterium
gathered at the family of
the Nwizus in Nnewichi to
bury Mr Christian Nwizu,
the elder brother to Rev
Fr Francis Nwizu. Mr Christian
Nwizu died after a brief
illness at the age of 39.
The burial mass was attended
by numerous priests at Holy
Spirit Parish, Nnewichi,
after which interment followed.
In his homily during the
burial mass presided over
by the Episcopal vicar for
Amichi region, Very Rev
Fr Felix Nwagbo, Fr Odigbo
Ferdinand, the Rector of
St Gabriel's Spiritual year
Seminary Ozubulu used the
Christian hope in the resurrection
of the dead to console the
family at such an early
loss......”. .....More

HISTORY |

Most Rev. Hilary Odili
Okeke, Cath. Bishop of Nnewi
Diocese |
What
has emerged and is celebrated
today as Nnewi Diocese is
no doubt a product of Onitsha
Archdiocese. Before now,
Onitsha Archdiocese has
given birth to several dioceses;for
instance, |
Enugu and Awka diocese were
created out of Onitsha Archdiocese
in 1962 and 1978 respectively.
